Airdry clay sculpture of Astarte on a sandstone base with shells from the Solway shore.
This is an original creation by Jade Melany.
She was crafted in airdry clay and using seawater and thunder water (from the first thunderstorm rain in summer of 2023 after an unprecedented heatwave )
The ancient deity Astarte was revered in the Middle East and is often associated with the goddess Ashtaroth. This is the plural form of the goddesses name in Hebrew which became a general term denoting goddesses and paganism.
This is a large and heavy piece which will require collecting at Maryport in person.
